Airport Services placement
Are you studying analytics, business or finance? If so, it’s important to make the most of your industrial placement year.
Our Airport Services scheme will provide you with invaluable hands-on experience and industry exposure, as well as a chance to build your technical and interpersonal skills.
We’ll not only help you develop professionally and give you a well-rounded understanding of air traffic control, but we’ll also reward you with a competitive salary.
How does it work?
The role will offer broad business and ATC/Airport operational experience working in the day to day activities of the ATC Operations team. In addition to undertaking some specific projects, the successful candidate will also be given regular responsibilities within the team; for example monitoring of the operation and production of associated reports for senior management.
Training & development
We offer a structured training programme. You can expect to visit customer sites – air traffic control centres, airports, remote engineering sites and other commercial customer sites – both here and overseas. We’ll also offer you some formal, classroom-based courses to develop your softer skills.
NATS has a very team-oriented culture which thrives on everyone working together and supporting each other. That’s why we work in open plan offices to allow easy interaction, which in turn creates a more relaxed environment. Everyone is friendly, welcoming and always happy to help.
Who can apply?
You should be working towards a 2:1 honours degree at Bachelor’s level or a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline, along with strong technical knowledge and good analytical skills.
An outstanding communicator and problem solver, you’ll be confident in your abilities and have a mature, proactive approach to your work. We also look for leadership skills, commitment drive and energy.
Our medical branch will test you for your general health. You will also be security cleared.
How to apply
Although applications for the scheme open in October and close in mid-January, we encourage you to apply as early as possible, as places are limited.
We’ll select you for the next stage on the basis of your initial online application, so please do take the time to sell yourself and answer all the questions to the best of your ability. If you’re successful, we’ll invite you to an assessment centre in December or February.
Structure of assessment centre
The day consists of a group exercise to assess your team-working skills, a competency and knowledge-based interview, as well as a presentation to senior managers.
If you’re successful, you’ll receive your offer by early March before starting in August.
