I've got know NATS quite well over the past few years as was on the Industrial Placement Scheme, then came back for a Summer placement before joining the Direct Entry Graduate Scheme.
On my Industrial Placement I did a number of things, including; researching future architecture and avionics on the flight decks of commercial aircraft, and, work to inform the NATS Communications, Navigation & Surveillance Strategy.
For my Summer placement, I worked on business cases for Southampton and Alderney airports to use 'Approach Procedures with Vertical guidance (APVs)'. This involved extensive analysis of various data, including current and future traffic predictions, runway usage and environmental impacts.
I am currently working in Voice Communications introducing an engineering terminal into a Control Room which will provide a list of frequencies that are cross-coupled should Emergency Mode ever be initiated. This has involved gathering requirements from the system experts and end users to generate the best solution.
I thoroughly enjoy the work and challenges at NATS - I must do - I keep coming back! I would certainly recommend Engineering students to look into the various schemes that NATS provides.
