AQUILA Team Strengthened by Enhanced Supplier Base

27 July 2011

AQUILA Air Traffic Management Services, the consortium of NATS and Thales UK, has today announced agreements with two new strategic suppliers. Frequentis and Jotron join, alongside Babcock, to create a team with unparalleled experience and expertise.

The signing of these two companies as suppliers, who will also support solution development as part of the strategic relationship, allows AQUILA to further mature the best value solution for the MARSHALL Project. The AQUILA solution will upgrade technology and performance while driving down cost in preparation for the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) MARSHALL Programme.

Paul Hutchings, AQUILA’s Consortium Director, said: “I am very pleased that Frequentis and Jotron have chosen to work in this sole strategic relationship with AQUILA.  Frequentis is a long standing leading supplier in defence communication solutions, and Jotron offers the very best in radio products within the ATC market. The AQUILA team has been constantly growing and evolving to directly answer the MARSHALL challenge. We are confident that AQUILA presents a strong and cost effective proposition for the MoD.”

AQUILA was formally established in January 2009 to bid for the MoD MARSHALL programme (formerly Joint Military Air Traffic Services – JMATS) and brings together technological and operational capabilities to develop a safe and enduring proposition to help the MoD meet its cost savings in military air traffic management, whilst addressing obsolescence and regulatory demands.  The consortium has submitted its response to the MoD’s Pre Qualification Questionnaire for MARSHALL and Invitations to Participate in Dialogue are expected in September 2011.
