Gatwick ATC Contract

31 July 2014

Gatwick Airport have announced that the contract for Air Traffic Control Services at Gatwick will transfer to the German ANSP, DFS. The expected transfer date will be October 2015.

NATS is very disappointed not to have been awarded this contract.  We have provided Tower ATM at Gatwick for more than 30 years and have worked closely with the airport to improve its efficiency. We submitted what we considered to be an extremely competitive bid that we believe would have been good for Gatwick and for NATS and did everything we could to meet the customer’s expectations. NATS’ expertise and experience in managing complex airspace and constrained airport capacity is recognised all over the world and we believe we have added significantly to Gatwick’s market value by increasing movements to 55 an hour – making it by a large margin the best performing single runway operation in the world. We will work with the successful bidder to ensure a smooth transition and will advise more details in due course.

Mike Stoller, Director of Operations, Airports, said: “We are extremely disappointed that the highly competitive bid we submitted to Gatwick has been unsuccessful.  We have added considerable value to Gatwick in recent years, building it to the point where with 55 movements an hour it significantly out-performs every other single runway airport in the world.”
