Kids draw the funniest things: what air traffic controllers’ kids think mum and dad do at work

19 October 2018

To celebrate International Day of the Air Traffic Controller on Saturday 20 October, Hampshire-based air traffic control company, NATS asked its employees’ children to draw what they thought mum and dad did at work.

The pictures, drawn by children aged between 4 and 8, will be used in a Christmas calendar to raise money for Cancer Research UK, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance and Aerobility – three of NATS’ chosen charities.

Sian Bunyan, NATS Performance & Engagement Coordinator, said: “Air traffic control is the invisible infrastructure that keeps aircraft moving around the globe safely and efficiently, but because you can’t see it, many don’t realise it exists.

“Thankfully, awareness days like International Day of the Air Traffic Controller give us the opportunity to shine a light on the amazing work that our employees do 24/7, 365 days a year.”

NATS aims to inspire the next generation of air traffic controllers by raising awareness of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths related career paths in the aviation industry.

She said: “It’s great to see such a creative and fun collection of drawings – we hope they will encourage the next generation of aviation professionals.”

NATS is currently recruiting for air traffic controllers. Are you interested? Visit www.nats.aero/careers for more information.
