Media Advisory – NATS at the World ATM Congress 2015

04 March 2015

NATS will be a key supporter of the World ATM Congress in Madrid on 10-12 March.

On stand 890, NATS experts will be available to discuss a range of ATM topics throughout the event, including: strategic airport capacity management, cross border arrival and departure management, time based separation and iTEC.

We will be promoting a number of key partnership projects that we are collaborating on, including SESAR and progress with its deployment with our alliance members.

There will be a number of technical demonstrations on the NATS stand throughout the duration of the event, including:

Tuesday 10th and Wednesday 11th March

12:00 – XMAN (Delivered by Andy Chambers)

14:00 – ACM (Delivered by Matthew Wells)

15:00 – TBS (Delivered by Sarah Forster)

Thursday 12th

11:00 – XMAN (Delivered by Andy Chambers)

12:00 – TBS (Delivered by Sarah Forster)

13:00 – ACM (Delivered by Matthew Wells)

XMAN – The XMAN trial, which has been supported by air traffic controllers in France, Ireland, the Netherlands and Scotland, allows controllers to ask aircraft to slow down up to 350 miles away from London in order to minimise delays on arrival. The trial has already saved airlines around £1 million in fuel and 5,000 tonnes of CO2, and is a real example of a SESAR concept driving positive change and delivering tangible results.

ACM – Combining advanced modelling techniques with the ability to make sense of a huge amount of operational data, Strategic Airport Capacity Management (ACM), enables NATS to quickly and easily identify potential benefits to an operation and deliver real results.

TBS – TBS is a world first. Using real time Datalink wind data from every arrival, TBS generates real time dynamic indicators for controllers, enabling them to dynamically adjust the separation between aircraft on final approach based on time rather than distance.

iTEC Executive members of the iTEC (interoperability Through European Collaboration) project, including Martin Rolfe, Managing Director Operations, NATS, will sign a formal agreement on Wednesday 11th at the World ATM Congress, extending the technical and commercial confines of the collaboration and committing to the conditions for developing the common iTEC Controller Working Position (CWP).

Delegates are also invited to play with our ATCO games to achieve a high score on our leaderboard and venture into our SPACE pod for some VIP demos and more detailed presentations.

NATS will be participating in various presentations throughout the conference:

  • Richard Deakin, NATS CEO, will be speaking in the 3rd session of the main conference on Wednesday 11th between 10:45 and 12:00 on the topic of ‘Smart Choices in a Disruptive Future’.
  • Andrew Dobson, Head of SESAR Programme Delivery, will be leading a panel discussion in the ATM theatre on Tuesday 10th between 10:30 and 11:30.
  • Branka Subotic, Executive Director Borealis Alliance, will be talking on Free Route Airspace in a seminar session on Tuesday 10th between 13:30 and 14:00.
  • Raquel Martínez Arnáiz, Director of Safety FerroNATS, has a seminar session on Wednesday between 12:00 and 12:30 to present the successful transition to liberalised towers in Spain.
