NATS Flight Efficiency Partnership continues to deliver fuel saving opportunities for airlines

28 February 2014

The third meeting of the NATS Flight Efficiency Partnership (FEP) took place on the 12 February at NATS Corporate and Technical Centre. The group focus is on agreeing shorter term improvements that can be made to vertical and lateral route profiles in and around UK airspace, as well as exploring opportunities for NATS and the Airlines to work together to ensure the most effective Flexible Use of Airspace (FUA).

The Group working together with Swanwick and Prestwick Centres have implemented over 200 changes over the past 5 years – This work is an example of one of the many different projects and initiatives that aims to help NATS reduce airline customers’ CO2 emissions by 4% by the end of 2014. The event included representatives from 15 different airlines, NATS ATC and Flight Planning System Providers and savings generated from this forum are forecast to enable over 16000 Tonnes fuel savings this year. Airlines tell us that they found the forum very informative and a great way of being able to discuss flight efficiency issues face to face with the ATC representatives who can make changes on their behalf.
