NATS Statement on Oceanic Air Traffic Control Saturday October 3

03 October 2009

At 0800 this morning, a fault developed within the Shanwick Automated Airtraffic System – which manages Oceanic airspace across the North Atlantic from the Prestwick centre in Scotland. Engineers investigated the cause and worked to restore the system as quickly as possible.

From midday, operations were back to normal and we are working very closely with the airlines to minimise delays. Safety was not affected at any time and NATS apologises for any inconvenience caused to travellers.
