Why is my flight delayed ‘due to weather’ when it is bright blue sky outside?

Your aircraft may be delayed from departing because of thunderstorms en-route. This affects the flights of aircraft, as pilots will deviate from their planned route to avoid the storm. The new route often increases our controllers’ workload and the airport’s capacity has to be reduced to maintain safety – meaning you might have to wait for a while before capacity can be increased.
