Accelerating sustainable aviation together

What is GAIN?

Most commercial flights are under the watch of an Air Navigation Service Provider; these organisations play a vital and unique role in ensuring aircraft operate safely and efficiently.

Green Aviation Insights (GAIN) is the first global benchmarking, reporting and collaboration data platform that helps Air Navigation Service Providers collectively take action to decrease emissions in the airspace they manage.

It helps them to better understand the efficiency of the airspace, identify opportunities for improvement, measure outcomes and benefit from shared experience and expertise of peers.

Working together, GAIN aims to support ANSPs in making aviation more sustainable.

Benefits

Reliability

Aids consistent delivery of safe, efficient and reliable services to airline customers.

Compliance

Provides data to aid reporting and ensure adherence to environmental regulatory frameworks, including ICAO, CORSIA and EU ETS.

Emissions

Quantifies emission reductions to bolster resilience in the context of evolving environmental regulations and stakeholder expectations.

Reputation

Provides tangible, quantifiable evidence of progress towards carbon reduction goals and commitment to industry targets.

Decision Making

Informs the decision-making process with accurate, real-time environmental performance data that can drive impactful improvements (from ground to air).

How GAIN works

Delivering a better understanding of data

GAIN is no ordinary dashboard. This digital sustainability partner is specifically designed to answer the 'why'. Interpreting data, highlighting hotspots and delivering key action points enables teams to respond, innovate and improve operations while reducing overall environmental impact.

GAIN is following an agile, user-centred design process to promote collaboration, so its full list of features will evolve during the development phase. Founding Members have priority input on the initial feature set.

Founding members

GAIN is spearheaded by industry-leading ANSPs – NATS, CAAM, skeyes, and AZANS – with CANSO as an observer. Collectively, these Founding Members oversee ~10% of global daily air traffic and are committed to refining the platform through trials, sharing data, and identifying new ways to reduce emissions. Based on historical performance indicators, the Founding Members could achieve annual CO2 savings of up to ~400,000 tonnes.

Aviation is now entering its fourth major revolution. The first made planes fly, the second focused on safety, the third democratised air travel… the fourth centres on sustainability, representing a fundamental change in how the aerospace industry operates.

3Di explained

How does NATS' three-dimensional insight work? How can 3Di measure airspace environmental efficiency?

Minimising noise in aviation

Reducing noise and emissions is a priority for efficient operations. Here's how we're managing the impact on communities and environment.

Airspace modernisation

What does the future of aviation look like? How we're managing and modernising airspaces for the next generation.

The aviation industry's race to Net Zero

No time like the present

Air travel is expected to double by 2040. Achieving Net Zero by 2050 requires nothing less than decisive, co-ordinated action today.

Green is good for trade

Tackling inefficiencies can reduce costs and transform the way we all do business. GAIN identifies hot spots, provides understanding and prompts action.

Strength in numbers

Climate change affects us all, but together we can create positive change. GAIN is both a cost-effective, data-driven solution and a powerful research community.

Boost compliance

GAIN produces measurable results. Track trends, create targeted initiatives and generate automatic reports to share with stakeholders and beyond.

Reaching net zero CO2 in air transport by 2050 is achievable, and depends on all industry partners and stakeholders being united in this ambition.
