Promoting Future Mobility & Growth

Promoting Future Mobility & Growth

Key questions

  • How do we modernise UK airspace to enable a more diverse range of users and platforms and so support the growth of the aviation industry?
  • How do we provide services to new airspace users with novel missions and platforms?
  • How do we achieve seamless integration and what is the transition path?
  • What part do we play in a multi-modal transport future?

Why?

  • UK airspace is an essential part of critical national infrastructure that requires modernising to better service the needs of all users.
  • Equitable access needs to be provided for an increasingly diverse range of aircraft platforms with different missions.
  • Current airspace management approaches are unlikely to scale to meet the expected growth and achieve seamless integration of the next generation of uncrewed aircraft.
  • Support the growth of the UK transport industry, lower the barriers to further investment and position the UK as a global market leader.
  • Generate new products and services that can underpin our future revenue growth ambitions.

Core challenges

  • Identify future users’ needs from industry stakeholder groups to achieve a harmonised industry perspective on integrated operations.
  • Describe the future structure and rules of the airspace to support greater integration and improve capacity.
  • Describe the data exchange platform and the future services that will support all types of airspace user and enhance the efficiency and safety of airspace operations.
  • Collaborate with UK airports to describe the necessary changes to systems and infrastructure to support a UK multimodal transport future.
  • Support the delivery of routine Beyond Visual Line of Sight operations to lay the foundations for Integrated Traffic Management.
